Artist's Note:
This game guys. This game is beyond amazing. I cried so hard at the end of the Tutorial, because it grips the heartstrings and wring them till they snap! And you feel yourself regretting the decisions you make. Then you try to do things again. But it's never the same.
THE GAME KNOWS. IT KNOWSSSSSSS.
Seriously guys, buy this game, and play it. Then play it again. And again. It's affordable, it's beautiful, and its an experience you won't ever forget.
Writer's Note:
There are a ton of great games coming out this year. We've already got Bloodborne, Witcher 3, and MGS 5 - all serious contenders for game of the year - and it's not even October yet.
But even amongst these titles, I think Undertale is the clear stand out. It is easily one of the most original and charming games I have ever played. Like we say in the comic, it's quite difficult to explain why the game is so good without engaging in massive spoilers, but it really is that good. It has so much heart. The game is basically a love-letter to the great SNES-era RPG titles we reference in the comic, and is jam-packed with the kind wonderful, magical little moments that make the genre feel fresh and new.
That the game was basically designed and written by a single developer (Toby Fox) kind of blows my mind, though it also makes a lot of sense: there is no way a large game studio could have executed on such a clear and original vision.
I could write so much more about this game, but it's best I just get to the point: Undertale is one of the best games I have ever played. I put it right up there with the likes Chrono Trigger, and believe that anyone who looks fondly upon those old SNES RPG titles would be extremely remiss to not give Undertale a try.
(And no, we weren't paid to endorse this game or anything. It's just so damn good that I couldn't help myself).
