So this is something Eiji Aonuma (the producer of the Zelda series) actually said, and it's hard to tell if he's being serious or just making an empty excuse. Either way it's disappointing, especially for Sarah, since she adores the Wind Waker's art style.
Now, getting Twilight Princess instead of Wind Waker 2 was not a bad consolation prize (Twilight was a damn good game), but you can see that Nintendo has been slowly moving back towards a more cartoony art style since then, with both Skyward and BOTW. Maybe one day they'll have the courage to go all the way, and our dreams of derp-Link and derp-Epona will finally be realized.
