Replace Twitch streamer w/ webcomic artist and you basically have something similar. Only difference is that you don't stream, but throw your comics into the void, and hope to hear a response from deep within the abyss.

It's amazing how quickly the streaming economy has grown. In the early days when online video was mostly flash animations and amateur home videos, I thought the future would just be more original content, so I never could have expected it would evolve into the current, personality-driven model that monetizes the quasi-social relationships these videos create as opposed to the content itself. While this makes a lot of sense in retrospect (as most things do) given the growth of social media business models, it's hard to say what comes next.
